The writing isn’t bad。 However the story and plot are awful。 It ruins the whole legacy the shape leaves。 And the whole Corey plot line pointless。

The worst in the series of recent "Halloween" novelizations。 Like the movie, the action is remarkably confusing and contrived; the novel tries its level best to contextualize and to expand on the movie, but it's not enough to make the story interesting。 Whether that is because of the limits of the source material, or whether that is because of the creative decisions that were made, I don't want to deliver judgment on; there are, after all, only so many stories you can tell about a murderous devi The worst in the series of recent "Halloween" novelizations。 Like the movie, the action is remarkably confusing and contrived; the novel tries its level best to contextualize and to expand on the movie, but it's not enough to make the story interesting。 Whether that is because of the limits of the source material, or whether that is because of the creative decisions that were made, I don't want to deliver judgment on; there are, after all, only so many stories you can tell about a murderous devil incarnate who goes around killing people with his bare hands。 That said: In my mind, as a third act, this should have been a story about the characters we already knew, and not about characters we as the readers are not acquainted with。 Some of those new stories surely gain some merit on their own, but in the context of the established story, they mostly just serve as distractions。 Less would have been more here, and a stronger focus on the established characters would probably have made for a better overall story。I'm reviewing this because, so far, all "Halloween" movie novelizations that I've read over the years have been pretty good, to the point where I didn't hesitate to preorder this one - and because I appreciate Paul Brad Logan as a writer。 His other books are a delight, and his work here isn't bad, either - just that the Halloween trilogy that started in 2018 has some narrative issues that even he cannot help it shake。 Like the movie, the novel is probably non-essential to the modern "myth" that the series has created。 That's as harsh a verdict as there can be one, since the clear intention of the remake series seems to have been just that。 - Would have loved to love this one, but for a movie, this was not convincing, and for a novel, it wasn't either。 。。。more
